WHY CHOOSE A TUTOR?

 Individual needs

The needs of individual students vary and can also differ from time to time.

Factors affecting students

A primary or secondary school student spends less than 200 days a year at school.  During that time there may be many diversions and disruptions to their learning with other scheduled activities, illness, change of school, teacher illness, leave or professional development or change of teacher.   Often if a day is missed or a skill not mastered when covered in the classroom, it can have ongoing consequences.  Other commitments can interfere with homework and study time.  Differences in teaching between schools can also contribute to lack of continuity, poor understanding and performance

A tutor can:

A tutor working with a student one-on-one can:

  • "explain it another way"
  • progressively work through and identify weaknesses
  • Identify and utilise strenghts and interests
  • closely observe the student and use multiple clues to tailor a program to their specific needs
  • draw on the student's interests and strengths to present material in the most productive way.
  • repeat and reinforce the lesson or skill until it is mastered,
  • take time to clearly identify gaps in the learning and tailor a program to bridge those gaps
  • provide detailed information and feedback to parents/carers about their students needs and how to  best provide support
  • provide a stable point of reference
  • work in the student’s individual best interest
  • provide a solution to a problem faced
  • work towards the student's identified goals
  • provide a guide through what could otherwise be insurmountable
  • demonstrate and model attitudes and behaviours
